Using Facebook Pixels with Engaging Networks pages

Facebook pixel is code that you can place on your Engaging Networks page (or any other page, for example your website). It is used to track conversions from Facebook ads and means that Facebook can report on how the ads have performed. The code is provided by Facebook.

Since Facebook Pixels are developed by Facebook, it can be hard for Engaging Networks support to give advice should you be having any difficulties.

Creating a Facebook Pixel

To create a pixel you need to have a business account with Facebook. Pixels are managed and created in the “Events Manager”.

It is recommended that you choose the option to “Manually install the code yourself”.

Installing the Facebook pixel header code

Once you have created your pixel, Facebook will give you some header code to install on your Engaging Networks page. To do this, copy the code given by Facebook.

You will need to add this code to your Engaging Networks template. You may therefore wish to duplicate your existing template (under Pages > Components > Templates or within the page editor itself) first. This means that if you make a mistake you won’t mess up a live template. It also means you won’t be applying the pixel to every page using the template.

Once you have decided on the template to add your pixel to, edit it and paste the code just above the </head> tag in your template’s header.

Save the template. Now apply the template to the page you want it to be used for, and save it.

Testing the Facebook pixel header code

Get the page’s URL and paste it into Facebook where it says “Send test traffic to your pixel”. Click the test button and wait a moment ‚Äì Facebook should indicate that the pixel is “Active”.

If not, refer to Facebook’s help documentation or install the Chrome extension that can help to troubleshoot.

Choose the Facebook pixel events you want to track

Click Continue in Facebook and you will be shown a new window in which you can decide on what events to track. An event is an action that can be tracked by Facebook, for example visiting a page. Choose the event(s) you want to track.

For example, you may choose to track the “Complete registration” event, which might be useful to track supporters that completed a petition.

Install the Facebook pixel events code

You will be presented with a “code snippet”. Copy the code.

Now go back to editing your page in Engaging Networks. On the page in which you want the event to fire (for example the thanks page) add a code block at the very top. Delete everything inside the code block and paste in the snippet given by Facebook. Give the code block a description, e.g. “Facebook pixel complete registration” and save it.

If you want to track multiple events on the same page, just add multiple code blocks.

Test the Facebook event code

Now you should test that the code works. To do this you need to trigger the event on your page. For example, if the event is to complete a registration, then take part in the campaign.

This can take some time to trigger with Facebook. You may wish to install the Chrome extension that makes it easier to troubleshoot the set-up.

Once you have verified it is working, click Done. Your pixel is now installed.
